The holiday season is right around the corner and I love to give simple personalized gifts. With the Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore Air 2, it's easy to add a personal touch to anything and make even the most simple gift feel a little more special. These DIY holiday gift tags, made with the Cricut Explore Air 2, are the perfect way to top any gift and add your own festive touch to ordinary gift wrap.
One of our favorite holiday traditions is taking little treats to the neighbors. The holiday season is a great time to connect with those around you and everyone loves baked goods! The kids can even help, making it a family affair.
Whether you decorate beautiful cookies, bake up a few easy loaves {this eggnog bread is one of our holiday favorites}, or grab some storebought goodies, sweet gifts will be even sweeter with these fun toppers.
Prepare the treats, package them in colorful bags, tins, or boxes, and add a homemade tag to the top.
I used my Cricut Explore Air 2 and two of my favorite products, pens and infusible ink, to make these tags. While I love the Cricut Maker, the Cricut Explore Air 2 is also so versatile and has awesome capabilities {check out all the things I love about the Cricut Explore Air 2 plus another fun project for Christmas}.
Hand Lettered Style Christmas Gift Tag
If you have just a few minutes to create, this hand lettered style Christmas gift tag is the perfect choice.
To make it, you'll need white cardstock, and pens in green, red, and black.
Pull up the gift tag file in Cricut Design Space, click customize, and size it to fit your package.
This tag was designed with slits at the top and bottom to feed ribbon through. If you want to attach the tag another way, remove the slits.
Once the image is sized the way you want it, send it to your Cricut machine. Place white cardstock on the green standard grip cutting mat and follow the machine's prompts to change pen colors.
The Cricut machine will draw the text and design and then cut it as well.
Feed ribbon through the slits {if you want to use a really wide ribbon, you may need to make the slits a bit longer} …
… and tie it onto the top of the package.
You'll have a super simple gift in just minutes!
Infusible Ink Present Gift Tag
If you've got a few more minutes to create, you have to try making one of these two infusible ink gift tags!
I love a good upcycled project and decided to use the Cricut coaster blanks and infusible ink to create these. This first present gift tag uses the square cork-backed coasters, red infusible ink transfer sheets, a black pen, and green cardstock.
I created the gift box design in Cricut Design Space and you can click that link to use the file. Don't forget to mirror the gift box image before sending it to your Cricut machine. You don't have to mirror the cardstock tag that you'll glue on top.
Use a light grip cutting mat for the infusible ink transfer sheets and a standard grip cutting mat for the cardstock. If you're using a Cricut Explore Air 2 to cut the design, place the dial on custom setting and select infusible ink in Cricut Design Space.
Don't forget to change the material to cardstock for the second mat!
Once the parts are cut, weed the cardstock in the standard way and weed the infusible ink image using the cracking method. Simply bend the transfer sheet and peel back the unwanted pieces using your fingers or tweezers.
To apply the infusible ink to the square coaster, use a lint free cloth to remove any debris from the top of the coaster. A small cloth comes in the transfer sheet package.
Place a piece of butcher paper, also included in the package, on an EasyPress mat.
Lay the weeded image on the square coaster, face down, and use heat resistant tape {if needed} to secure it in place.
Cover with another piece of butcher paper then cover with a piece of cardstock.
Use the EasyPress 2, preheated to 400 degrees, to press the image for 60 seconds. Don't apply pressure while pressing and don't move the EasyPress 2 around at all.
When the timer goes off, lift the EasyPress 2 straight up. The coaster will be super hot so let it cool completely before removing the paper layers.
I seriously never get over how cool this product is. The way it infuses right into the coaster is nothing short of awesome.
Use a dab of hot glue to attach the paper tag …
… and this little gift tag is complete.
Attach it to the top of a gift using hot glue or strong tape.
These square coasters are super versatile and make really cute upcycled gift tags!
Infusible Ink Ornament Gift Tag
I couldn't resist creating another style of gift tag with the round coaster blanks. I knew they'd make super cute ornament gift tags!
Once again, I created the ornament gift tag image in Cricut Design Space and you can click the link to use it as well. {I didn't want the outline of this design to show on the coaster so I made it big enough that it doesn't fit. If you do want it to show, make the design a bit smaller.}
To make these tags, you'll need round coaster blanks, red and black infusible ink transfer sheets, and white cardstock.
Follow the cutting and weeding instructions used for the ornament above, being sure to mirror the ornament image before cutting.
To apply the image, you'll use a slightly different method for the ceramic coasters.
Use a lint free cloth to remove any dust or debris from the coaster.
Place a piece of cardstock on the EasyPress mat.
Lay the image on the coaster, face down. {I cut out the blank plastic backing on the ornament piece so that I could insert the text and apply all of the image at once.}
Flip the entire thing so the coaster is upside down with the image against the cardstock and mat.
Cover the coaster with butcher paper and use the EasyPress 2, preheated to 400 degrees, to press the image for 240 seconds. Don't apply pressure and don't move the EasyPress 2 around.
When the timer goes off, lift the EasyPress 2 straight up.
The coaster will be extremely hot so let it cool completely before removing the paper layers from the image.
Glue the cardstock ornament top onto the back of the coaster using hot glue.
Use a dab of hot glue or strong double-sided tape to attach the tag to the top of the gift.
These gift tags are all really easy to make and add such a cute, personalized element to a gift.
